Anasazi Animal Clinic offers a variety of treatment options for ear diseases in pets. Ear disease is a common problem in dogs and cats. Our veterinarians and staff have many years experience treating these conditions. If your pet is experiencing problems with his or her ears, we provide fast, caring treatment.

The second most common disease seen in veterinary practices across the U.S. today, after dental disease, is ear disease.

From mild inflammation or severe middle ear infection, approximately15 – 20% of canine patients and 6 – 7% of feline patients have some kind of ear disease. Determining the cause of ear disease is often a difficult task. The video otoscope is used in examination, diagnosis and treatment.

Examples of it’s use include:

  • Ear Cytology
  • Foreign Object Removal
  • Deep Flush & Irrigate
  • Laser Surgery
  • Biopsy
  • Infusion of medication directly within middle ear or deep into vertical canal

Treatments include:

  • Otitis Externa
  • Otitis Media
  • Ear Mites
  • Hematoma of the Ear Flap (Aural Hematoma)
  • Allergy testing/hypo sensitization

Recently, new approaches to the medical management of otitis externa (ear disease of the outer ear canal) in dogs and cats have been introduced. These include ear cytology (veterinarian looking under microscope of specimen collected from pets ear for presence of bacteria or organisms) to identify disease processes and organisms. The use of new products to remove exudates and disinfect the canal and new technology like the video otoscope, have revolutionized the world of ear treatment.

Dogs and cats have much longer ear canals than humans, making examination very difficult, especially if there is pathology (evidence of abnormalities) or pain in the ear.

Our MedRX video otoscope has a fiber optic light source that illuminates the canal, a camera then magnifies the image by 20 times and projects it onto a monitor that is located in each exam room. This makes it possible for you to see the inside of your pet’s ear as well.

Our scope also has the capability of allowing instruments to be inserted and guided into the ear canal for flushing debris, wax balls, retrieve samples of discharge or biopsy samples, foreign objects, insects and ticks. We also have a special CO2 laser tip that allows laser surgery deep within the ear. The video otoscope is used in examination, diagnosis and treatment. We use the video otoscope in many procedures.

The video otoscope technology is offered by only 8% of veterinarians across the U.S.

We are proud at Anasazi to be able to offer this new technology to make your precious pet’s life more comfortable. Call today to learn the latest in diagnosis and treatment as well as the best ways to prevent ear problems for your pet.
