Eating the same food at every meal, day after day, sounds incredibly dull to us. But not to dogs. They’re a lot more worried about their bowl getting filled on time than about what you put in it. So don’t worry! Even if you feed your dog the same kibble every single day, they won’t get bored by it.

What’s more important is how much your dog eats, the daily meal routine you establish, and making sure they get all the right nutrients for their age and size.

Dogs appreciate predictability more than anything else. In fact, making changes to the food your dog eats could give them an upset stomach or cause digestive irritation. So before you make any changes to your dog’s diet, talk to your vet about it first.

Is It Healthy for Dogs to Eat Kibble Every Day?

Dogs have much different daily nutritional needs than we do, and dry dog food is specifically formulated to meet those dietary needs. It’s meant to provide all the protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, and minerals that dogs need for good health. But some brands are better than others.

To make sure you’re buying high-quality kibble, here’s what to look for:

  • Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) approval that the product meets regulatory standards,
  • The first ingredient should be a protein like chicken, beef, or fish
  • It contains all of the amino acids and essential nutrients dogs need

It’s perfectly safe to feed your dog the same kibble every day, but it’s also important to make sure you’re feeding them the right amount for their size, age, and activity levels. And keep in mind that some dogs do need special diets, due to allergies or obesity, so talk to your vet if you’re thinking about “upgrading” your dog’s diet.

Are Fresh Food Diets Better for Dogs?

When you think about it, fresh food diets for dogs are actually meant to appeal to people. We’re the ones who like color, texture, and variety. Some dogs can benefit from food with fewer additives because of sensitivities or allergies. However, feeding your dog fresh food can be risky.

You have to be very careful with food handling, even if you ordered your pet a meal kit. Raw food may expose you both to dangerous bacteria like salmonella. Food safety is paramount in selecting, storing, and handling raw dog food to avoid getting sick or making your pet sick.

And if you’re preparing fresh food for your dog, you have to make sure you aren’t missing any key nutrients. Before you take this step, the guidance of your vet is crucial.
